Unsinkable Storytelling Author:

We are in an era of change. It doesn’t matter if you’re for it or not, it’s happening. I’m a Black girl who’s been in predominantly white spaces my entire life. I can count the number of Black friends on one hand. When it comes to school, especially history class I’ve only been taught about the same Black figures. Don’t get me wrong, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks were extremely important during the original civil rights movement but why haven’t I learned about Canadian historical figures. Because of this, I’ve taken it upon myself to further my education about my roots. Marie-Joseph Angelique is someone I’ve been learning more about. Right now there is another uprising of the Black lives matter movement and I’m learning more than ever through social media, and it is important that others educate themselves too because knowledge is power.

And with that power we can make a difference.
